Privacy Policy

Who is Julie?

I am committed to building the trust and confidence of visitors to my web site. In real life I don’t spend hours and hours sifting through your data or passing it onto weirdos. I’m just trying to comply with EU legislation because I’m the type of person who doesn’t like to fall foul of the law and get into trouble. So here’s my privacy policy which I hope contains all the information about how I’m collecting, using and protecting your personal data. Please be aware I’m on a very limited budget and can’t afford an expensive lawyer to look over my documentation. If you find something that is amiss please let me know and I’ll try to sort it out.

My website address is: You can contact me at

What personal data do I collect?

When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. This isn’t anything that I’ve set up in person. It just happens automatically with WordPress.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading those with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Apparently other visitors to the website, who are much more I.T. savvy than I am, might be able to download and extract any location data from them.

If you leave a comment on you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content including videos, images, articles and advertising links from affiliates. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Google Analytics

When someone visits I use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. I do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

Statcounter is an online service which helps me to understand how visitors find my website, how long they spend here, their approximate geographical location and IP address, their device, browser and operating system, where they have been referred from and which web pages they are most interested in. I use Statcounter as it gives me an additional understanding of how visitors are interacting with my website. This helps me to target the content, design and functionality of my site. I use the subscription free service which means that I only have access to this data for the most recent 500 page loads.

Statcounter uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on visitors and visitor activity on my website. When you visit our website a Statcounter cookie (called “is_unique”) may be placed in your browser. This cookie is used only to determine whether you are a first-time or returning visitor and to estimate unique visits to the site.

You can learn more about cookies from Statcounter and set your browser to refuse same here:

How long do I retain your data?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue

What rights you have over your data?

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I amend or erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes (although I am not aware that I hold any information that falls within this remit under the current time).
